’Le Rendez-Vous TOYOTA’ is one of the many automobile showrooms found on the most beautiful avenue in the world, the Champs-Elysées. As the avenue of Champs-Elysées is one of the symbols of Paris, these showrooms represent the future of automobiles.
This time, we were invited to the opening of Toyota's new exhibition, collaborating with Fauchon, a long-established French specialty food store. (2007-09-24)

Do you know ‘AYGO’? It’s a very cute compact car specially produced by Toyota for European markets, collaborating with French car manufacturers, Peugeot and Citroën. Now in Rendez-Vous Toyota at Champs-Elysées, they present an exhibition ‘AYGO Create’ where you can find AYGO decorated by four French creators who have a touch of Japanese sensibility. Let's take a look at four different styles of AYGO!

Artist 1. Ora-ïto

Ora-ïto is the hottest design studio in France and the designer, Ito Morabito is attracting attentions as next Philippe Starck. They also designed this showroom.
Ora-ïto decorates a mat black AYGO with pinkish neon tube lights, which reminds us flashy nights in Tokyo.

Artist 2. André

Graphic designer, André creates a cute and cheerful AYGO colored bright pink with a logo saying ‘Tout va bien = Everything goes well’

Artist 3. Frédéric Boilet

Frédéric Boilet is comic author who has been living in Tokyo for 10 years. He decorates a white AYGO with a cute Japanese girl drawn by him. Jumping and spinning girl represents typical Japanese culture, ‘Kawaii = cute’.

Artist 4. Christophe Adam (Fauchon)

This gorgeous AYGO was created by Christophe Adam, chef pâtissier of Fauchon. The car body is covered with champagne-gold leather and éclairs of black chocolate with edible gold leaf are put in a row. That’s Japanese minimalism!

It is so interesting to see various images of Japan created by French artists. Just for your information, those cars are purely art masterpieces, so we can’t drive them…What a pity!

Times of Paris(TOP) : Would you describe your creation with AYGO?
I have chosen leather of champagne-gold as material which gives a touch of luxury, so as to express the elegance of Japan. The arrangement of éclairs is inspired by Japanese classic garden, which has modest beauty and not too gorgeous. I tried to make a beautiful marriage with Japan and France.

TOP : Fauchon is very famous and loved in Japan among all those French brands.
Yes, Fauchon arrived in Japan 33 years ago. So, it’s not just a coincidence that Toyota asked us to collaborate with them.

TOP :
What is Japan for you?
I love everything about Japan. I have had the opportunity to visit that country about ten times, but always on business. I do hope to travel around Japan on my own next time.

TOP : What is the source of inspiration of your creation?
Now I am in charge of creations of all food products as well as patisserie, everything I see and I hear inspires me to get creative every day.

TOP : Any message for the readers of Times of Paris?
I’m so glad to see many tourists coming to Paris. The shop at Madeleine Place will be back open in December, so I hope to see you there very soon.

Here are some photos of Christophe Adam’s creations. Everything was so delicious!!
