The Swiss-born, internationally famous sculptor Alberto Giacometti also lived for some time in Paris. He is most famous for his tall, thin statues of people. This large scale retrospective exhibition, containing 200 sculptures, 60 paintings, 170 sketches, and 190 photographs in one building, is being held at the Pompidou Centre. In keeping with the title (atelier means “studio” in French), the exhibition attempts to draw attention to the places where the artist brought his works to life. The main feature on display will be actual walls from his three main studios in Stampa (Switzerland), Maloja (Switzerland), and Paris. Being surrounded by the studio walls on which Giacometti himself drew many pictures should allow the viewer to feel a little closer to this great 20th century artist.(2008-01-04)
