Le Phare du Canal is a brasserie that
opened in July of 2007. The shop, whose name means “The
Lighthouse of the Canal”, is located right by Canal Saint
Martin, made famous in the movie Amelie. The area, where a
working class atmosphere coexists with high-end boutiques,
is also near the Oberkampf and Marais districts and is
quintessential Paris. The interior is something the owner
has obviously been very particular about as it combines an
atmosphere of classical Paris with modern furniture to make
a perfect match.

Food is served everyday from lunch through nighttime, and
with no holidays either. You’ll be able to comfortably enjoy
traditional French food served by a friendly staff. Since
the portions are pretty big, just ordering a single main
dish and a dessert will be plenty for most people. (The
bottom right picture shows the Bream in American Sauce.)
Since the café opens early and
stays open all day, be sure to stop in when you get
a little tired during your stroll along the canal.
The Republique and Oberkampf districts may not be
the preferred stops for most travelers, but the area
is definitely recommended for those wishing to have
a deeper Parisian experience.
There is a
English mini-site, where you can
conveniently find
the menu translated into
English.
Special Bonus:
Coupon for one aperitif of either kir
or fruit juice for each person at your table.
