| The construction of the Sainte Chapelle was ordered by Louis IX and completed in 1248. Pierre de Montreuil, who designed Notre Dame Cathedral in Paris and in Saint Denis, as well, may have created this chapel of gothic style. You have to pass security check to enter because of its location: the chapel is in the heart of the courthouse of Paris. The building has two levels: the upper part, once reserved for the sovereign, is filled with the beautiful stained-glass windows. There is no word to explain the gorgeousness. The chapel gets even more beautiful with sunlight, we recommend visiting when the sun is high. Take your time to appreciate the dance of lights and colors. (2007-06-08)
